Community of Orange Glen gathers in solidarity against racism
At noon Pacific today students from all over San Diego County are gathering in solidarity with students from Orange Glen High School at Coronado Union School District and Escondido Union School District in protest. They have called a press conference to notify the county that “Hate is not welcome here, or anywhere.”
Students and community members are protesting what they are saying is systemic racism that the Coronado Union School District, and Escondido Union School District are perpetuating by their lack of action against past and a more recent attack against Latinos and other students of color.
This past Friday while playing a CIF Championship game Orange Glens predominantly Hispanic Basketball Team had tortillas hurled at them from Coronado High School Basketball Players and students. This triggered a verbal altercation between the students and parents and police were called.
An undercover police officer pulled out his badge and began to to threaten OG Coach Chris Featherly with arrest if he didn’t get his team and get out despite him being calm.
